The History

The Historic Argo hotel was built in 1912

by Nicholas Michaelis in tribute to the ship that brought his father, Henri John to America in 1847. The Argo was meant to cater to the train passengers that arrived 6 times a day and was the first building in the town of Crofton to have electric lights. He and his wife Anna ran the hotel until 1915, it was then sold to Mr. and Mrs. Hoig. In 1923, the name was changed to the New Meridian Hotel, named after the highway that was being built at the time. In 1940, the New Meridian Clinic/Sanatorium bought the building. At that time, Dr. Wiebelhaus until 1962, then it changed hands to Dr. Swift who remodeled the first floor to a doctors office. In 1994, siblings Jerry and Sandra (McDonald) Bogner purchased the building and completely restored it back to original condition and has been the Argo Hotel since. In 1999, the Argo Hotel was put on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel has had several accounts of paranormal activity, most famously a lady by the name of Alice who is said to have passed during childbirth. She roams around looking for her baby. All the entities here are friendly and mean no harm.
The Owners

Charles (Chuck) and Todd

It always has been a dream of Chuck's to open a family business. With the Argo that dream came true. His dad Todd is partial owner, his mother Esther is the manager, his brother Darrian is the kitchen manager.

Chuck is a mortician and lives and is a partial owner of Spitzer Miller Funeral Home and lives in Aberdeen, SD.

Todd is a jack of all trades. We all hope to be able to help Crofton grow as a community by bringing the Argo back to life. The Argo is pet and children friendly, there are 9 rooms which all have different themes. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. Each one queen bed and a private bathroom. Management is available 24 hours a day, by phone when away from the desk.
